Psalm 37:7
"Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way.
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass."
Rest: to be dumb (unable to speak), be still
Wait: to dance, to writhe in pain
Patiently: carefully
I am always amazed at the root words in Hebrew and how
they are translated. Some words have so many different
meanings that is only by the Holy Spirit that the true
meaning is applied in the correct context.
"Rest in the LORD", be still before the LORD, be quiet,
no talking, no complaining. "Wait patiently for Him’.
When I read the definition for wait, I pictured a child
having to use the bathroom really bad and hopping from
foot to foot. Or at my age, being awakened by pain in
the middle of the night because I need to use the bathroom.
So to put all that together, when we see people getting
what they want with no regard to what is right, legal, or
moral and with no consideration for others – just chill out.
We don’t have to go to the LORD (or your parents, or your
pastor, or your employer or your teacher) complaining and
whining that life is not fair. You can do your little ‘potty-
dance" in private and then ask the LORD to forgive you for
not trusting Him.
The Bible tells us, especially in the last days, there will be
wickedness. It also tells us that in His appointed time, He will
make it all work out for good.
"Do not fret" we covered in verse one. At the first sign of
heated feelings rising up in us, give it to the LORD and let
Him pour some living water on those embers. When we are
fretful, we open ourselves up to many temptations and as a
result we can end up becoming what we despise.
Have patience. God IS in control.
