Psalm 37:25-26
25"I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
26 Nor his descendants begging bread." "He is ever merciful and lends; And His descendants are blessed."
Righteous = just, lawful, righteous man
Forsaken = to loosen, relinquish, let go
Begging = to ask, beg, seek for. to search out by any method, specifically in worship and prayer
Mercy = to bend or stoop in kindness, to favor, give, have pity on, pray for
Lend = to twine, unite, join, abide with
Well, I have been young and I am old and I have to agree with David that I have never seen the righteous forsaken. The LORD promised to never leave us or forsake us. He will never turn His back on us and He will never let us go. We belong to Him.
We have all heard of hungry children. There are ads on TV for "Feed the Children", "Christian Children's Fund" and other ministries aimed at feeding children. Quite often they are Christians living in poverty and it appears to be a contradiction. When Israel obeyed God there was enough food for everyone
and the poor were treated fairly. When Israel turned away from God, the rich took care of themselves, and the poor suffered. It is the church's job and individual Christian's job to feed the poor, so it will not be necessary for them to beg. It is interesting that the root word translated begging is to search by any method, specifically in worship and prayer. As we acknowledge God as our provider and worship Him, we can make our requests to Him for our needs.
Then in verse 26, it says the righteous man always has mercy on others and lends to the needy. We 'walk in their shoes' without judgment. As we do this, God will bless us to be able to do more.
