Psalm 37 NKJV

Verse 2
"For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the
green herb."

Grass: grass or hay
Herb: tender green or grass
Wither: to wilt, fall away, faint, fail, disgrace, dishonor or come to
naught

I left with a question last week, "Did they get away with it?"

In verse 2 the evildoers are compared to grass or hay and herbs.
It says they wither and some of the meanings of the Hebrew word
are listed above. If they wilt, fail or are disgraced, I don't think
they got away with it.

Look at what happens to grass.  The seed is spread, it is watered
and fertilized and begins to sprout up. It grows fairly quick and
soon turns a lush green.  If it is your lawn, you can be very proud
of it.  It looks good, enhances your property and feels good to
walk on.  However in a few days or weeks, it is no longer a
pleasure to have this prosperous grass.  It has been become tall
and unsightly.  If left, it will soon detract from the looks of your
property.  Now it has become a chore and needs to be cut down
to an attractive height again. This will have to be done over and
over again.

Keeping your lawn trimmed and looking attractive can be
compared to how the LORD chastises His people.  When we go
beyond the boundaries He has set up for us He will get out His
spiritual lawnmower and cut us down to where we should be.  He
won't cut us so short that we turn brown, nor leave us so long
that we are an embarrassment to Him.

Now let's think about hay.  It is allowed to grow for much longer
and to grow much higher.  It is not trimmed every two weeks.  It
is left to its own devices.  Then when it has succeeded to its full
potential, the LORD gets out His heavy equipment and cuts that
hay down to the ground.  I imagine this is like the evildoers who
He allows to go their own way without any regard for God or
anyone else and they succeed only to be cut down in the end.
The evildoers will NOT get away with their malicious scheming.  If not
in this life on earth surely in the Judgment.

If the hay is not cut down but just left in the field, depending on
the weather, eventually it will either dry up or rot where it stands.
It cannot grow and prosper forever.  It will either be so dry that
any stray spark will set it on fire and destroy it or it will rot and
stink and be useless.

So don't let the scumbags of this world get to you and cause you
to sin.  You never have to lie, cheat or steal to accomplish your
goal, if your goal is God's goal for you.

Happier verses coming up.
