Psalm 37 NKJV

verse 1
Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers
of iniquity.

Fret: in Hebrew it means much more than just worry.
It literally means to grow warm.  It could be translated to blaze up,
(get hot with anger), be incensed.
Envious: to be zealous or very jealous, a mind burning with
jealousy or envy.

Whenever I have read"do not fret", I thought "do not worry" or
"don't be concerned".  Now that I have looked up the meaning of
fret in the Strong's and Vine's Dictionaries I see that it means a
much stronger feeling.
We are being told not be so angry, incensed, really hot about the
actions of the 'evildoers'.  In the world, at work, at school, and
maybe even at home we can see people who go beyond taking
advantage of the situation.  There are those who lie, cheat, and
steal to accomplish their goals.  The maddening thing is that they
seem to always achieve their goals.  In the news lately, we have
been hearing about investors, politicians and businessmen who
are using corrupt methods to get power and wealth with complete
disregard for who gets hurt.  We hear of people lying on
resume's, cheating on tests and disregarding rules.
We are not to be envious or burn with jealousy over their actions
because they are committing sins.  It can be very tempting to
follow their example and tell that lie to get an advantage.  It is
especially hard when we see a co-worker or a schoolmate 'get
away with it'.

Did they get away with it?

In the meantime, let's be thankful for all the little things in our lives.
