A Psalm of David .
1 The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD
Forever.
Have you ever been outside on a cloudless night and seemed you could just reach up and touch the stars?
Unfortunately nowadays we have light pollution and the sky is just not as bright as it was years ago.
Go back with me in your minds eye about 2500 years ago to a field outside of Bethlehem. There we will find a little shepard boy tending his father's sheep.
Through the years of tending his father's sheep, he associated the parallel of a caring shepherd with the Lord caring for His people.
As a Shepherd David noticed,
How he provided for his sheep:
He would provide rich fields of green grass to rest in.
He provided safe water for them to drink.
How he would strengthen them:
He would lead them on safe paths.
How he was their protection:
He had his rod to defend his sheep.
He had his staff to pull them into safety.
Then David looked past the sheep herd and saw God's love for him.
Even with his enemies trying to do him in, David could see how God was blessing him even in the face of danger. Even his enemies like King Saul saw God's blessings on David.
David had the anointing from God. God's blessing were always good and merciful. David knew God's blessings were in abundance, the blessings went with him wherever he went, and they unending.( forever )
Now Jesus speaking:
John 10:14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.
John 10:15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
John 10:16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.
Jesus is our provider: Matt. 6:33 ( seek ye first )
Jesus gives rest and help: Matt. 11:28-30 ( His Yoke )
Jesus leads us through life John 10:27 ( we know His voice and follow Him )

Jesus gives life abundantly: John 10:10 ( gives abundantly )
Jesus is preparing a place for us: John 14:1-4 ( in the Father's house... )
Jesus prayed for us! John 17:20-26 ( that we may behold His Glory )
Jesus provides us a glorious future 1 John 3:2 ( 1 John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is )
